Common service questions we hear

Why does my "check engine" light come on?

In a perfect world, you'll find that a check engine light may be caused by a loose gas cap. It's obviously one of the easiest car problems to remedy without spending too much time, but many modern vehicles are equipped with capless fuel fillers. A check engine light can be caused by a faulty oxygen sensor, bad spark plugs or a faulty mass airflow sensor. While the repair might be minor, it's recommended to bring your vehicle to a dealership to have the problem diagnosed. If your check engine light has come on, our technicians would be happy to take a look. Visit our Salem service center today.

Do I have to have my vehicle serviced at the dealership to have it covered under warranty?

The short answer is no, but we encourage it. Items such as oil changes, tire rotations, brakes, and other routine maintenance can be performed outside the dealership and will not void your factory warranty. It's worth noting that you may need to provide records of maintenance should something mechanically fail that is covered by your factory warranty if the maintenance wasn't performed at the dealership. The dealership will have permanent record of your maintenance on file and ensure certified technicians and the most current tools and computers are used to diagnose and repair your vehicle. There are cheaper alternatives, but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for". Schedule your service visit with us online.

How often should I have my oil change?

Most people believe they should change their oil every 3,000 miles. This was true many years ago and may still be applicable for older models, but with improved technology in today's vehicles and enhanced quality to car engine oil, most vehicles can go at least 5,000 to 7,500 miles between oil changes. If you're a high mileage driver you may want to consider using synthetic oil as this can allow you to drive 10,000 to 15,000 or more in between oil changes. Schedule your oil change with us today.

What's the point of a tire rotation?

Tire rotations may be the most neglected of all routine maintenance tasks, but what is it? And why do vehicle manufacturers recommend it? Tire rotations are a way of managing tire tread wear - the grating, scouring, and scraping that happens to your tires' tread while carrying your vehicle over roads and rough surfaces. During a tire rotation, each tire is moved to a different position on your car's axles, like moving the front right tire to the back left position, for example. This shuffle helps your tires wear more evenly and last longer saving you money in the long run. Get your tires rotated at our expert service center in Salem.
